About Dr. Dane & Functional Neurology

Dr. Darcy Dane, a board-certified chiropractic neurologist, brings a wealth of expertise and compassion to Naples Brain Center. A Naples, FL native, she earned her Bachelor of Science from Florida State University in 1996 and her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Life University in 1999. Early in her career, Dr. Dane pursued advanced training in functional medicine and, in 2008, began her journey toward a diplomate in neurology, achieving board certification in 2011. Since then, she has focused on developing innovative functional neurological treatments to improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Dane is a respected faculty member at the Carrick Institute, where she trains healthcare professionals in functional neurology, emphasizing the diagnosis and treatment of central nervous system disorders.

In 2006, Dr. Dane relocated to Wake Forest, NC, where she opened Carolina Brain Center in 2009 while pursuing a Master of Divinity at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary to deepen her spiritual growth. In 2025, she and her husband, Lt. Col. (retired) Ronald Veldhuizen, Jr., returned to her hometown of Naples, FL, to establish Naples Brain Center, bringing her specialized expertise to Southwest Florida.

Outside her practice, Dr. Dane enjoys an active lifestyle with her husband, sharing a love for hockey as dedicated Carolina Hurricanes fans. They enjoy fishing, tackling DIY projects, and traveling for Flowrider surfing. Their family includes Tucker, a beloved therapy dog at Naples Brain Center, and two cats, Ka La Koa and Koa Kia.

Functional neurology, also known as chiropractic neurology, is an advanced approach to evaluating and treating the central and peripheral nervous systems. Pioneered by Dr. Ted Carrick, founder of the Carrick Institute, this field has gained significant recognition for its holistic and effective methods. These motor symptoms stem from brain dysfunction, but the nervous system also governs emotions, cognition, pain, digestion, and organ function. Dr. Dane’s Education: Dr. Dane has been a Doctor of Chiropractic since 1999 and is a Board Certified Diplomate of Chiropractic Neurology (DACNB). Dr. Dane has completed over 700 hours of neurological course work and continues to attend monthly seminars to increase her knowledge. Additionally, Dr. Dane is an assistant professor of neurology, helping to train new functional neurologists.
